Green Bank NRAO Mini-Triathlon
Thanks to Mike Stennes for organizing the 2009 Green Bank National Radio Astronomy Observatory Mini-Triathlon, which took place on this very sunny Saturday, August 1.
The course involved a 1/4-mile swim, 6-mile bike, and 3-mile run, and takes participants on a complete tour of the observatory grounds and some of the back country of Deer Creek.
A newcomer to this course, Sid Gillispie, shattered the course record by over 7 minutes, with a time of 59 minutes flat. Yours truly came in second, but I'm not going to mention the time. ;-)
Turns out, Sid Gillispie is the executive director of the Elkins YMCA, and happens to be the president of the Randolph County Community Corrections Board of Advisors. You'll recall that Pocahontas County is a partner with Randolph County's corrections program. Small world, great to meet Mr. Gillispie.
Everybody had a lot of fun. Great course. And also thanks to Melinda Mello for helping out.
