Durbin Days 5K 2009

I ran my first Durbin Days 5K race this morning. Beautiful day, and about 40 people participated. Knew some folks, and met others who had come from Elkins, Beverly, and Staunton and beyond to take part in the fun.

The race was along Back River Road from Bartow (across from Traveler's Repose) into Durbin. At the Repose were many Civil War reenactment soldiers preparing to march Old Pike Road to Camp Allegheny. One was playing a flute or the like, and the music and atmosphere was pleasant and surreal. They headed out just before we runners did the opposite direction.

Along the run, there was still a good bit of Chicory, and Oswego Tea was coming out in full effect. Lovely course to be sure. But those hills are steeper than they seem from the car. ;-)

Thanks to Mike Stennes and Melinda Mello for organizing and helping with this event. Everybody had a great time.
