I Am Your Democrat
Hi folks,
In a show of Democratic party unity, I attempted to reach out to Mr. Carpenter when I called him about 2-3 weeks ago to discuss the upcoming general election. He was not in, but I spoke with his kind wife Peggy and asked her to pass along to James that I was hoping to sit down with him and talk politics and such. After the May 13 primary, I made it clear my best wishes for all the candidates. Now as then, I wish no ill will towards Mr. Carpenter.
But he lost.
Towards maintaining integrity and openness in this election, I phoned Charles Wilfong yesterday to apprise him of this development so that we're all on the "same page" so to speak.
Last night, I met with the Pocahontas County Democratic Executive Committee at the McClintic Library in an already-scheduled meeting to discuss the party's focus going forward. The write-in filing by Mr. Carpenter was discussed at length. Let me be clear: I have the full and unanimous endorsement of our Democratic party, and I am *the* Democratic nominee for Pocahontas County Commissioner in this 2008 general election.
In this maneuver, what you are seeing take place is precisely the kind of self-centered approach to county government that has cost us several years of heartache and a 9-generation family their entire savings. The primary election made clear that the citizens of Pocahontas County have had enough of personal interests running the show.
The new commission will listen. The new commission will safeguard the interests of the citizens and families of Pocahontas County. The new commission will take a leadership role in improving our future together, rather than a reactionary and defensive posture when they are caught trying to undermine the sanctity and livelihood of our families. The new commission will work with the needs of the community as we, together, create the opportunities that will enable our children to find their future here as well.
I will continue this campaign as I have carried it thus far. With integrity of character, with the interests of this community first and foremost, and with the greatest respect for fellow candidates.
I am honored to be running a campaign with Mr. Charles Wilfong on the Republican ticket. I say with, not against. He is a fine man, a hard worker, and a good father. Of course, there must and will be a winner between us on November 4, but there will be no loser on that day. I will make my case for our future, as will Mr. Wilfong. The people will make their decision properly, fairly, and with finality.
I look forward to meeting you as I continue to go door-to-door throughout the county. Tomorrow in Marlinton, I will be around at the Autumn Harvest Festival. Please come out, enjoy a fine day amidst the heritage found only here in Pocahontas County, and tell me your thoughts on our direction going forward.
Yours truly,
David March Fleming
Democratic Nominee for Pocahontas County Commissioner
