Commission asks IJDC to cease PSD funding

Dear Ms. Chestnut:
Through recent actions, the Pocahontas County Commission has rededicated itself to the task of facilitating open, inclusive, and comprehensive conversation in addressing the county's water and sewer infrastructure needs.
Specifically, a great need for change has arisen due to the Pocahontas County Public Service District's (PSD's) demonstrated inability to represent the community's needs and wishes in its execution of the proposed Snowshoe/Slatyfork regional sewer project.
The Commission and the community at large has come to believe that the PSD is, unfortunately, not able or not willing to address the actual need and purpose of this project in a comprehensive manner. Put simply, we have concluded that the PSD has failed with respect to this project.
Despite the failings of the PSD, we are very fortunate in that community involvement and organization is maturing into a more sensitive and encompassing vision of the area's future. This vision is being hard-earned and is of great value. Concordantly, the Commission feels that it has the responsibility to nurture and promote this vision.
Both the will of the community and the dedication of the Commission to this vision are clear. Therefore, so that we may properly and patiently determine the best course of action going forward, the Pocahontas County Commission requests that the West Virginia Infrastructure and Jobs Development Council provide no further funding to the Pocahontas County PSD at this time.
Thank you, and we look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
Martin V. Saffer
President
