Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
As the year is coming to a close, I have spent time reflecting back upon this my first year as your newest county commissioner. And it has been quite a year. It has been both busy and fun to be involved with so many activities throughout the county, and to be able to assist with funding for many organizations and entities that benefit our county and our people.
In part we were able to contribute to and/or pledge support for these entities and organizations: Linwood Library, Durbin Library, North Central Community Action for backpacks for school kids, Family Resource Network, EMS, Pocahontas Memorial Hospital, Mountain Resource Conservation and Development, Dilley's Mill Boy Scout Camp, Parks and Recreation, Fishing Derby, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), funding in support of senior citizens' activities, Elk Headwaters Watershed Association, Pocahontas County Water Resources Task Force, Northern Food Pantry, Pocahontas County Veterans Honor Corp, Pocahontas County Health Department, Region 4 Planning & Development for broadband proposal administration, Town of Marlinton for storm sewer work, Pocahontas County Humane Society and various animal control aspects, CYAC (Child and Youth Advocacy Center). I have certainly forgotten some that I should mention.
In addition to funding, we continue to sponsor numerous community participation and development grants. It is very pleasing to see so many efforts out there looking for grant opportunities, and to be able to sponsor much of that work as your county commission.
It is a pleasure to be part of a county commission that has many a time unanimously supported various causes that benefit our county and our people. It is humbling to be part of your county government team, working well and closely with other departments such as the sheriff, assessor, prosecuting attorney, magistrates, county clerk, and circuit clerk. And it is truly rewarding to be working with fellow experienced and insightful commissioners Reta Griffith and Martin Saffer, as well as commission assistant Sue Helton and county coordinator Jay Miller.
I look forward to my next year working with this team, for you and our county. It is an honor to serve you. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year. :-)
